Monkeypox is an infectious disease caused by infection of the monkeypox virus. The initial symptoms of monkeypox are similar to the symptoms of smallpox in general, namely fever, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, rash and lesions.

The main difference between the two is that monkeypox causes swollen lymph nodes. These symptoms usually appear within 7-14 days after infection. However, in some cases, symptoms can also appear 5-21 days after exposure. (un)
