Jokowi orders borders to be tightened to prevent monkeypox outbreak

The Health Ministry confirmed the first positive case of monkeypox in Indonesia on August 20. The 27-year-old patient from Jakarta previously had a history of overseas travel.

Separately, Budi Gunadi Sadikin said monkeypox has a relatively low fatality rate. “There have now been 39,000 cases of monkeypox worldwide, but only 12 people died from it, so it’s around 0.03 percent, which is still relatively low,” he said.

He said the ministry has been preparing treatment and vaccinations to tackle monkeypox. (rr)
