Jakarta, IO – Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by the Malaysian apex court on Tuesday (23/8). The court found Najib guilty on charges related to the multi-billion-dollar corruption scandal at state-owned fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

The Federal Court ruling exhausted Najib’s legal avenue.

“We agree that the defense is so inherently inconsistent and incredible that it does not raise a reasonable doubt,” read Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat as reported by Kontan on Wednesday (24/8).

“We are unable to conclude that any of these findings, as affirmed by the Court of Appeal, were perverse or plainly wrong so as to warrant appellate intervention.” The court ruled unanimously in the case.
