Jakarta, IO – The Indonesian government is encouraging stronger cooperation between Asean and Japan to prepare for Industry 5.0. According to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, this can be done through educational and research collaboration.

“For the past 50 years, Asean-Japan have worked together to strengthen partnerships and unite communities through scholarship programs and youth and cultural exchanges. However, the challenges ahead are becoming increasingly complex,” said Jokowi, per Setkab.go.id, Mon (18/12).

This collaboration can be carried out in various fields including education and research to improve the quality of international talents with the main focus given to startups or the digital economy.

“The network of young entrepreneurs and startups must be strengthened and prepared to accelerate the development of the digital economy and strategic industries such as manufacturing and semiconductors,” he said.

In addition, he believes that the ease of community mobility also needs to be improved, such as through language training assistance to mutual recognition of skills and academics.

“In 2030, the Asean workforce is projected to reach 385 million people. This can be used to fill the need for workers in Japan, both skilled and professional,” he added.

The tourism sector, said Jokowi, must also pay attention to and synergize with the latest technological innovations aimed at fostering economic growth in the region.

“We also need to continue to improve the tourism sector and technological innovation to encourage mutual understanding and economic growth in the region. The bridge to peace and prosperity for mankind. That’s what we are aiming toward,” he said. (bp)
