Govt to send humanitarian aid to Afghanistan earthquake survivors

Jakarta, IO – The Indonesian government will send aid worth Rp22 billion to earthquake survivors in Afghanistan.

The assistance will be sent through the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) and will be converted to items such as food, blankets and medical equipment, per CNN Indonesia, Wed (22/11).

“The government assistance is provided using standby fund. It consists of 17 types of items for Afghanistan,” said BNPB head Lt. Gen. Suharyanto.

Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy explained that a total of 114,000 people were impacted by the quake, which killed 1,480 and injured 1,950.

Furthermore, Muhadjir said that coordination with the Foreign Ministry and related agencies is being carried out. He said the assistance reflects Indonesia’s commitment to help global citizens, as well as a form of solidarity and brotherly ties between Indonesia and Central Asian countries, especially Afghanistan.

“The delivery of humanitarian aid will be carried out through BNPB taking into account the needs on the ground,” said Muhadjir.
