Getting to know 2 actors with Indonesian heritage in the Avatar: The Last Airbender

Jakarta, IO – The live action series Avatar: The Last Airbender has gotten warm welcome since its premiere on Netflix, Thursday (22/2). Not only is the storyline captivating, the cast are considered to be in line with animated characters with the same title.

The series also has many fans in Indonesia. Moreover, there are two actors with Indonesian heritage. The story revolves around the journey of Aang, the young Avatar who tries to master the four elements, namely water, fire, air and earth to restore balance to a world under threat, per Detikcom, Tue (27/2).

The first actor is Dallas Liu, 22, who plays one of the main characters, namely Prince Zuko from the Fire Kingdom. Liu has Indonesian blood from his mother’s family. He grew up in the United States and has starred in several films and television series.

From a young age, the actor born in 2001 has shown an interest in martial arts, especially Shotokan, a style of karate. He even became world champion of the International Sports Karate Association in 2012.

His interest in acting emerged when he was in junior high school. He idolizes Jackie Chan and dreams of becoming an actor like him.

Liu’s passion for acting persists as he grows into an adult. In 2009, Liu made his acting debut in the film Tekken. He played the character of young Jin Kazama and managed to steal the viewers’ attention.

Since then, Liu’s career in the world of acting has continued to skyrocket. He has starred in various feature films, including Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021.

Then there is Ruy Iskandar, 39, who plays Lieutenant Jee, one of Prince Zuko’s crew members. He now lives and has a career in the United States. Before Avatar, the actor born in 1984, has played in several film and series but Avatar is by far his largest project, where he is involved in more than one episode. (un)
