Jakarta, IO – Football governing body FIFA has imposed sanctions on five Indonesian football clubs in the form of a transfer embargo for three competition seasons. The announcement was made on Tuesday (2/4).

The five clubs are Persija Jakarta, Persikab Bandung, Persiraja Banda Aceh, SADA Sumut FC, and Persiwa Wamena, per Antaranews, Wed (3/4).

FIFA has yet to provide any details concerning the reasons for the measure. However, one thing is clear, the punishments will not be given simultaneously.

For Persija and Persiraja, the penalties were effective on January 26. For Persikab and SADA on February 26. And for Persiwa it has been imposed on May 12, 2022 and has yet to be lifted. However, currently Persiwa no longer exists as it has merged with Cirebon’s Bina Putra.

As per the Disciplinary Code, FIFA reserves the right to impose sanctions on football clubs for a number of reasons, including but not limited to unpaid or delayed payment to players and arbitrary termination of contract.

The transfer embargo prevents a club from registering new players after recruitment. Clubs still have the right to bring in players, but recruited players cannot be registered with the national football association, which rendered them unable to play. (un)
