IO, Bali – For the seventh time in a row, this year the Ubud Village Jazz Festival (UVJF) is back and will be held in August 16 / 17 2019, in the shade of the Arma Museum garden, Ubud. As in previous years, Ubud Village Jazz Festival will “caress” Ubud Village, famous for its Bohemian nuance, by presenting a very classy jazz festival featuring various musicians from all around the world with their very diverse and rich various musical sub-genre.

The tagline for Ubud Village Jazz Festival 2019 is CERTAINLY! INDONESIA. Along with the celebration of Indonesian Independence, Ubud Village Jazz Festival 2019 also spreads optimism for a better and improved Indonesia. Capable Indonesia is ready to enter global competition.

Since the first event in 2013, UVJF has been faithfully committed to serve as an environmentally-friendly festival. In 2019, UVJF also supported the spirit of “discouraging the use of one-time use plastics”, as one of the forms of their “care and responsibility as a member of the community who cares about environmental issues”, as stated by Anom Darsana, one of the founders of UVJF.

Involving more than 8 countries, UVJF will present broad and various types of jazz by musicians from Indonesia, USA, Germany, Russia, Netherlands, Italy, Australia, France, and South Korea, all of whom already had big names in the jazz music world, and also those whose talent is recognized and widely believed to be the jazz world’s future generation, guaranteeing that jazz music will always exist. All this is presented in a particularly unique stage nuance and festival area, one rarely evident in other festivals. Both made UVJF grow into be one of the most important community-based cultural events. UVJF gained a positive reputation from musicians, connoisseurs, and observers of jazz music, both locally and internationally. UVJF is also supported by friendly country embassies, like the Embassy of Austria, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Français d’Indonésie Institute, and Goethe Institute, which made UVJF more confidence in presenting this universal celebration of jazz music.

The line-up for 2019 UVJF promises quality which will spoil jazz lovers. Sri Hanuraga Trio feat. Dira Sugandi, “The Funky Swing Couple” Otti Jamalus Trio Feat. Yance Manusama, young saxophonist Anggi Harahap Quartet, HajarBleh Big Band, Nancy Ponto Quintet. Eurasian Quartet feat. Dian Pratiwi, UVJF co-founder, Yuri Mahatma with his project “Straight and Stretch”, Drummer from Canada who had lived in Bali for a long time Yvon Thibault “Perspectives”, KoPi Jazz Kediri (Kediri Jazz Lovers Community) along with Cendana Singers from Kediri, East Java. From the younger generation, Jacob Jayasena – a 13-year-old pianist – will perform with young pianist Nadine Adriana.

From the USA performers include big names: the Aaron Goldberg Trio (With Matt Penman and Leon Parker), also Pete Jung Quartet (South Korea), Michaela Rabitsch &R. Pawlik Quartet supported by Austria Embassy in Jakarta, Harry Mitchell Trio, Arcing Wires (Australia) and also from Australia Caleb Fortuin with the Bali Mates (Future Leaders Jazz Award Winner). First timers are Ilugdin Trio and New Centropezn Quartet (Russia). Don’t forget Voyager 4 from France, supported by Francais d’Indonesie Institute.

Completing the 2019 Ubud Village Jazz Festival event, a week before the festival, there will be series of pre-event concerts which will be held in Movenpick Resort, Rumah Luwih, Tanjung Sari, Vincent’s Candi Dasa, Sthala Tribute Port Folio Hotel, Plataran Ubud, Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Bali, Bridges, Aryaduta Bali, Bale Tudor, Wu Wei Resorts, also an important jazz workshop from Aaron Goldberg Trio for Bali Jazz musicians which will be held on Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Denpasar in August 15.
