BRIN breaks MURI record with 7,192m deep sea expedition

Jakarta, IO – The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) was conferred the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) award for successfully carrying out the deepest sea expedition.

The award was presented to two BRIN researchers, Yustian Rovi Alfiansah and Andina Ramadhani Putri Pane, for their achievements in carrying out a deep sea research expedition that reached a depth of 7,192 meters. The handover of the certificate was carried out at the Jakarta Military Sea Transport Command (Kolinlamil) on Friday (22/3), per Brin.go.id.

This expedition is part of the Expedition Java Trench 2024 in collaboration with the Institute of Deep-Sea Science and Engineering (IDSSE), Chinese Academy of Science (CAS). It which was carried out from February 23 to March 22 at one of the deepest points in southern Java Sea.

The researchers used the submarine IDSSE-CAS Fendouzhe which is capable of diving to a depth of 11,000 meters. BRIN head Laksana Tri Handoko said the expedition had succeeded in strengthening international cooperation in the field of maritime research and innovation. He hoped that deep sea research collaboration between BRIN and IDSSE-CAS can continue in the future. (bp)
