The monitoring and analysis element is performed by the relevant ministry or agency. BNPB has carried out numerous undertakings to improve the community’s response capabilities, such as conducting training and simulations. “We have implemented early disaster warnings from 2015 to 2019 by installing early warning system instruments in 115 districts/cities,” remarked Afril.
He added that in 2021, BNPB had installed an early warning system along the Bengawan Solo stream in seven regencies/cities, which were then handed over to the regional heads. “Not only do we focus on preparing the instruments, but we are equipping them with capacity-building, because we know that risk is an integrated element. It is also related to the extent of the community’s preparedness capacity and how big the threats are,” Afril explained.
