Jakarta, IO – President-elect Prabowo Subianto, who has been officially declared as the winner of the 2024 presidential election, received congratulatory message from US President Joe Biden via telephone on Friday (22/3) evening WIB.
In the cordial conversation which lasted about five minutes, Prabowo said that it was a great honor for him to be able to speak personally by telephone with Biden.
Biden said he was happy to see Prabowo’s election victory in the 2024 presidential election and hoped than Indonesia and the US could expand cooperation in a variety of fields including trade, investment, health, human rights and clean energy transition.
Prabowo concurred and said he would strive to step up bilateral cooperation with the US. He also expressed his admiration for Biden. “I am a big admirer of you, Sir. I have been following your activities for a long time,” said Prabowo.
Biden also said the US has a shared responsibility, especially in the Pacific region, and thus hoped to have close relationship with Indonesia under incoming Prabowo’s presidency.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) officially declared presidential pair No 2, Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as the victor of the 2024 presidential election with 96,214,691 votes (58.58 percent of the total legitimate votes nationwide).
The results were announced on Wednesday (20/3) after the electoral agency finished counting the votes in 38 provinces and overseas polling stations.
