Jakarta, IO – Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) was reported missing after a working visit to Europe recently. Deputy Minister Harvick Hasnul Qolbi said the ministry is currently searching for his whereabouts.

“That’s right. To this day we continue to look for the minister’s whereabouts because up to this moment we have had no news about where he is,” said Harvick, per Kompas, Wednesday (4/10).

Harvick said that the last information he received was that Syahrul and a number of officials from the ministry were on an official trip to Spain. However, the entourage returned in separate groups.

Syahrul’s disappearance became the center of public attention because his official residence was recently searched by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Nevertheless, Harvick denied that Syahrul tried to evade responsibility from the case that implicated him.

A similar statement was made by NasDem Party treasurer Ahmad Sahroni. He told tempo.co that he was convinced that Syahrul would return to Indonesia soon. Syahrul is a member of the party.

Sahroni revealed that Syahrul was supposed to arrive in Jakarta on October 1. However, due to some problems, Syahrul will return to Indonesia on October 5.

He said the reason Syahrul has yet to return was because he was continuing his journey to get treatment for his illness. However, Sahroni admitted that he did not about what country he is being treated at.

“I don’t know. I only got information that he has prostate problems. He didn’t inform us,” he explained. (un)
