7 Airlines Affected by Thick Smoke from Tangerang Landfill Fire

Jakarta, IO – State-owned air navigation firm AirNav Indonesia stated that thick smoke from the fire at Rawa Tikus final disposal site , Tangerang, has affected the visibility of the flight at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

“To date, seven airlines have been affected by the blaze,” said AirNav Indonesia secretary Hermana Soegijantoro, per Medcom, Monday (22/10).

In anticipation, AirNav Indonesia is coordinating with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), and the Soekarno-Hatta Airport meteorological station to update information regarding wind direction in the following week.

“We are also coordinating for water bombing with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) to ensure flight safety while supporting the fire prevention efforts,” he explained.

Hermana said AirNav Indonesia has carried out mitigation by issuing a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) for all flights.

“In addition, we have also adjusted the arrival and departure of flights to and from Soekarno-Hatta by taking into account the direction of the smoke which will depend on the wind conditions,” he said. (at)
