Jakarta, IO – To express its continued commitment towards the encouragement of wise and responsible usage of digital platforms, TikTok staged a screening of the hot new social critique film Budi Pekerti (“Moral Norms”), created by director/ screenwriter Wregas Bhanuteja, at Studio XXI, Senayan City, Jakarta.

“As an inclusive platform, we provide a forum for Indonesians to express themselves, share their perspectives, and become part of a wider discussion, safely here at TikTok. However, a safe and comfortable digital environment is only possible when everyone performs their duty to #SalingJaga (“#WatchOutForEachOther”), on TikTok. As we noticed that the film Budi Pekerti shares the same values and mission as us, we are very happy to be able to support its premiere screening in Indonesia. We hope that society, especially the TikTok community, will both learn a valuable lesson from the movie, i.e. by actively fight against misinformation, disinformation, and hoaxes in order to create a digital environment that is safe, friendly, and comfortable for everyone,” declared Anbar Jayadi, TikTok Indonesia Outreach and Partnerships/Trust and Safety Officer.

Budi Pekerti tells the story of Ibu (Mrs.) Prani (Sha Ine Febriyanti), a strict school counselor and ethics teacher who truly cares very much about her students’ development.

Thanks to her unique but effective teaching methods, she was nominated for the post of Vice Principal at her school of employment. When she became involved in an incident that became widely disseminated in digital platforms, Bu Prani and her family – her husband, Pak (Mr.) Didit (Dwi Sasono) and their two children, Muklas (Angga Yunanda) and Tita (Prilly Latuconsina), had to face the smearing of their reputations, which puts them at risk of losing their livelihood and face social sanctions as the direct impact of the spreading of misinformation and disinformation about them.

Budi Pekerti’s director/ screenwriter Wregas Bhanuteja declared that the movie is the realization of his anxieties: “I personally see for myself how unwise, irresponsible use of digital platforms can cause a great, widespread impact across society. Therefore, I welcome TikTok’s mission of spreading the message of misinformation in a digital platform. Alongside TikTok, I hope we all can form the new habit of using digital platforms wisely and responsibly, as safe and accepting digital environments can only appear when all of us #SalingJaga #WatchOutForEachOther,” he said.

The actors of Budi Pekerti shared the same sentiment: “Bu Prani’s struggles against misinformation, disinformation, and hoaxes in the movie shows just how deeply and widely digital traces can affect a person’s life. I hope that the movie can help spread the message to #SalingJaga, so that we can all be wiser both when receiving and sharing information on digital platforms, including TikTok,” Sha Ine Febriyanti said.

“As a social media user, I believe that all of us, especially the young, should have full control over the content and/or information that we receive, consume, or distribute. Therefore, I see that the #SalingJaga message TikTok initiated is strongly relevant to the lessons we can take from Muklas Animalia’s figure in Budi Pekerti. Ensuring that we are constantly wise and vigilant in our self-expression and content sharing on digital platforms, including TikTok, is our – everyone’s – responsibility as digital citizens,” Angga Yunanda said.

“As an education activist who actively uses digital platforms to express myself, create works, and connect with my fans, I know better than most just how important it is to remain wise in our use of digital platforms and social media. Therefore, I am glad that I became involved in the movie, became part of the movement to spread the message to society on how to become wise when using social media. I further appreciate TikTok’s message of #SalingJaga, because it is strongly relevant to the current condition. More than ever, nowadays we need to work together, to watch over each other and protect each other from spreading misinformation that would ultimately endanger ourselves,” Prilly Latuconsina stated.
