“Philately was wildly popular as a collective memory for exchanging stamps and covers and is also reviving these days. Sending written messages by postcard is now trending among the philatelic community. There are at least 804,000 postcard activists worldwide, and 8,700 members in Indonesia have joined Postcrossing.

We encourage each other to keep our existences as Indonesian philatelists,” said Uul Jihadan, Chair of the Communications Division of the Indonesian Philatelist Association Center.

Philatelic objects, including stamps and postcards, are known to have documented historical and cultural markers.

“Stamps and philately are not only a means of sending letters but also a creative space, cultural markers, and diplomatic objects,” said Yetti Martanti, Head of the Yogyakarta City Culture Office.

Philately has been an important part of the nation’s history, especially in Yogyakarta. “Yogyakarta can never be separated from the history of philately. High-level philatelists from the Asia Pacific Federation of Philatelic Organizations and Indonesian philatelists both attended Indonesian Philately Day in 2006,” added Yetti.

“We believe that philately will endure, and we are also excited to promote philately to the community,” said Tata Sugiarta, Corporate Secretary of PT Pos Indonesia. (des)
