Taking painkillers and uric acid drugs over the long term and in an incorrect dosage can result in chronic kidney disease. In addition, drugs that relieve nausea and vomiting, such as omeprazole, ranitidine, and antacids can also impact with kidney damage, if consumed carelessly. Another habit that also needs to be avoided is consuming energy drinks continuously.

Excessive consumption of vitamins can inter with proper kidney functions. “People have to be careful when consuming vitamins, such as vitamin C, for a certain period, coupled with the habit of not drinking enough water. This can lead to complications from stones in the urinary tract, which can eventually become a problem at a later date,” he said. “So it is important to perform early detection, by checking blood sugar and blood pressure regularly, as a patient with kidney disorders at an early stage can avoid chronic disease.”

The problem is that early detection is not easy, because generally, patients with kidney disorders do not show symptoms at an early stage. Symptoms appear when the patient is at an advanced stage. The symptoms commonly experienced in patients with chronic kidney disease include weakness, fatigue, decreased appetite, nausea and vomiting, frequent hiccups, cramps, insomnia, shortness of breath, decreased libido, cough, and pericardial pain or chest pain. Other conditions to watch out for are if the urine is frothy or red when urinating and the onset of hypertension.

Management of patients with advanced chronic kidney disease or kidney failure is carried out to prevent worsening and even early death. In patients with kidney failure, the risk of heart attacks and strokes is very high, so they are at risk of experiencing premature death. The management of chronic kidney patients is carried out by avoiding risk factors that can exacerbate the condition. Patients should stop smoking and control proteinuria or protein levels in the urine. (est)
