Jakarta, IO – The global philanthropic movement continues to grow. Various aspects, including the trend, have also changed from initially focused on individual philanthropists, to community and institutions. This happens because sustainable movement is one of the main goals.

Various innovation and adaptation strategies continue to be carried out to widen the scope of the impact. It is undeniable that the Covid-19 pandemic has become a momentum which accelerated global philanthropic transformation which requires philanthropic institutions to be more familiar with digitalization, transparency, and accountability.

Derek Ray-Hill, Director of International Strategy at Charities Aid Foundation, said philanthropic activities in Indonesia are strongly rooted in the zakat tradition as well as cultural factors, which encourage people to give to each other and become volunteers. This is evident from the World Giving Index (WGI) annual report which states that Indonesia is always ranked in the top 10 most generous countries in the world, and ranks first in the same category according to WGI 2021.

This was confirmed by the Deputy of BAZNAS Indonesia & Head of Filantropi Indonesia Supervisory Board, Arifin Purwakananta. In his view, the role of religion-based philanthropy has an important role in encouraging public generosity.
