“The role of philanthropy is very important for the development, challenges and opportunities in increasing the impact of philanthropy as the focus of achieving SDGs,” said Arifin at the FIFest 2022 webinar titled “The Transformation of Philanthropy Landscape: Global & Indonesia’s Perspective” held by Filantropi Indonesia on Thursday (2/6).
Arifin said the opportunity that looks promising is people’s increasing familiarity with gadgets which also supports the opportunity for the growth of philanthropy in Indonesia. He believes that the use of mobile phones which is increasingly common among young people has increased the generosity of the Indonesian people.

“The use of digital technology such as mobile phones now makes it very easy for us to donate,” he said.
In addition, he also highlighted the challenge of misuse of philanthropic funds which is a problem in all nations. He explained that in Indonesia the challenge is very real. To anticipate this, BAZNAS said it has coordinated with the police, intelligence agencies, and other parties to prevent misappropriation of zakat funds.
