IO – Pop group ABBA has announced that for the first time in 40 years, it will return with a concert that will see Agnetha, Björn, and Benny perform digitally and live with 10 bands in a specially constructed arena in London, from 27 May 2022, along with a new studio album.

The digital version of ABBA has been created using motion-capture techniques and performance techniques created weekly and even monthly, with four band members and an 850 strong team from Industrial Light & Magic, a company founded by George Lucas, where this work is the first musical performance from the company.

After an amazing 40 years since their last studio album, The Visitors, now ABBA is not only producing two new songs ‘I Still Have Faith In You’ and ‘Don’t Shut Me Down’, which will be performed in concert but has also recorded and produced a new album. Co-recorded at Benny’s studio, Riksmixningsverket in Stockholm, Voyage will be released worldwide on November 5 under Universal Music Group.

ABBA Voyage will open on 27 May 2022 at the ABBA Arena, a modern arena with a capacity of 3,000 people located at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

“The miracle of ABBA and the incredible effort of an also extraordinary team has reached the long-awaited milestone today. To be able to share this effort with the rest of the world is an honor for us, and we can’t wait to welcome you to our arena in east London, a place where we are very happy to be in,” said producers Svana Gisla and Ludvig Andersson.

Director Baillie Walsh revealed that he watched ABBA win the Eurovision song contest in 1974, and never imagined that 47 years later, he would be with them on this extraordinary journey.

“Life is weird and wonderful sometimes,” Baillie said.

In line with Baillie, the choreographer Wayne McGregor said that this concert was a miracle from ABBA.

“Imagine growing up in Northern England in the 70s and learning ballroom, Latin, and disco dance to amazing songs from ABBA. I was 8 years old at the time and was very carried away by ABBA’s music. Forward to 2020, I was in Sweden and danced with ABBA – in real life! I was just about to turn 50 and this time I was really transported back to those days. This is the magic of ABBA.We’ve shared tons of creative as well as fun adventures with a highly collaborative team to make the impossible possible for ABBA Voyage: magical technology, state-of-the-art entertainment innovation. And in our burning hearts, we bring you new songs, new moves, classics, classic moves: ABBA is DANCE and always will be. See you on the dance floor,” Wayne said. (nhn)
