Depok, IO – “I am Optimus Prime”. Transformer movie lovers are perhaps familiar with that sentence. Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots from Planet Cybertron, ones who came to Earth to protect Earth’s citizens from the destruction caused by the Decepticons led by Megatron. Optimus Prime along with Bumble Bee and the other Autobots work together to save the lives of Earthlings from the Decepticons’ attack.

For some people, Optimus Prime or Bumble Bee are just superheroes in a movie. But not for Purbo Kusumo (35). This Depok resident, who has 2 children, created the figure of Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots, to survive.

Purbo, who initially worked as an online taxi driver, saw that his income was decreasing, so in 2017, this man of Javanese descent decided to quit his profession. “At first I was confused about what to do, finally I decided to sell a motorcycle to buy a costume which I then studied and modified,” explained this thin man.

He had his share of failures. However, it did not dampen his enthusiasm to continue fighting to provide for his wife and children. He kept trying to make very complicated superhero costumes, and it took a long time.

“Finally, I was able to make the costume myself. The first costume I made was Iron Man. There was pride in seeing my creations,” he said while tidying up his costumes.
