Jakarta, IO – Justin Hubner, a naturalized player hopeful for the Indonesian National Team, is scheduled to take the Indonesian citizenship oath of allegiance a day after he arrives in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/12), said the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) secretary general Yunus Nusi, per CNN Indonesia.

“He will take the oath on December 6,” said Yunus. The naturalization of the Wolverhampton Wanderers player was approved by the House of Representatives (DPR) on March 21. The approval was also given to two other players, Rafael Struick and Ivar Jenner.

However, Hubner did not take the oath then. He ignored the call from the Indonesian National Team on March 25. After more than six months, PSSI decided to continue Hubner’s naturalization.

Thus, the window of opportunity for Hubner to defend the Indonesian national team in the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar is now open. The tournament is scheduled to take place from January 12 to February 10 next year.

The Indonesian national team is in Group D. The Garuda squad coached by Shin Tae Yong will face Japan, Iraq and Vietnam. PSSI promises that Indonesia will qualify from the group phase in this event. (un)
