Move away, Indonesia! Pakistan now the world’s largest Muslim-majority country

Jakarta, IO – Indonesia is no longer the country with the largest Muslim population in the world according to the World Population Review. This position is now occupied by Pakistan.

Pakistan overtook Indonesia with its Muslim population of 240.8 million, accounting for 98.19 percent of its total population, per Detikcom, Wed (3/4).

The size of Indonesia’s Muslim community now stands at 236 million, 84.35 percent of its total population.

India comes third with 200 million, followed by Bangladesh’s 150.8 million.

Islam is the second largest religion in the world after Christianity. But World Population Review projected that the number of Muslims may surpass Christians by 2025.

Although Muslims can be found throughout the world, the majority of the adherents live in northern and central Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia where more than 50 percent of the population are Muslims. (un)
