The owner of Kopiree, Banyu Adytama (23), revealed that he set up the café because he was “disillusioned” with the typical hang out establishments in South Jakarta, especially in Cipete, that are quite expensive, costing around Rp25,000 or even above Rp30,000, excluding tax.

“That’s why we made a breakthrough to create a ‘homey’ cafe with a price below Rp25,000. Thank God, it is well-received by the customers,” Banyu told the Independent Observer.

“Many commented, ‘Oh yes, there is a coffee shop in Cipete that is really cheap, the most expensive is only Rp23,000,’ there are also those who say ‘a cheap café no less delicious than others in South Jakarta,’” he added.

He further explained that Kopiree serves a number of signature menus, such as ‘Kopi Kesana Kesini’ and Aren Latte for Rp19,000; there is also non-coffee menu such as Choco Hazelnut for Rp18,000.
