Kemenkes confirms 2 Covid-related deaths caused by JN.1 variant

Jakarta, IO – The Health Ministry (Kemenkes) announced that two people died after being infected with Covid-19.

Kemenkes spokesperson Siti Nadia Tarmizi elaborated that one of them, identified as GNS (77), was exposed to the JN.1 subvariant which first entered Indonesia in November, per Kompas, Wed (27/12).

The patient died on December 21 after undergoing treatment at Elizabeth Lubuk Baja Hospital, Batam, Riau Islands.

Meanwhile, another patient, identified as FV (48), was also a resident of Batam. He died on December 18 at Embung Fatimah Hospital.

Kemenkes previously stated that JN.1 cases were mainly found in Jakarta and Batam.

Jakarta Health Bureau (Dinkes) said one of the characteristic symptoms of JN.1 infection is a whiter-than-usual tongue. (un)
