Jakarta, IO – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo plans to work from the new presidential office in the Nusantara Capital District (IKN), East Kalimantan, starting July after some of the basic infrastructure is completed.

“I’m waiting for the airport and toll road to be ready,” said Jokowi, per Tempo, Friday (1/3).

He said that if the airport and toll road are completed, the travel time from Nusantara Airport to IKN will only take around 15 minutes. The construction of the toll road will also shorten the travel time from Balikpapan City to IKN from two hours to less than an hour.

“I really hope that with toll road and airport facilities, traffic to IKN will become even busier,” he said.

Jokowi reiterate that the capital city relocation from Jakarta to Nusantara aims to create more ‘Indonesia-centric’ development. He also envisions Nusantara to be a totally homegrown green and smart city.

According to him, this would be a source of pride for the nation. “Indeed, we want to have a presidential palace that is not a colonial relic. We want to build it ourselves with our own resources and by our own people,” said Jokowi. (un)
