Jakarta’s status to change into special region after capital city relocation

Jakarta, IO – Jakarta’s status will change from special capital region (DKI) to special region of Jakarta (DKJ) when Indonesia’s administrative capital city has moved to Nusantara (IKN). This is stipulated in a bill currently being discussed.

Through her Instagram account, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said that the discussion of the bill involved Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Mahfud MD, and Jakarta caretake governor Heru Budi Hartono in Merdeka Palace on September 12.

“There are many aspects related to state finance that need to be regulated in the bill. Other ministers reported on the preparation to obtain direction from President @jokowi and Vice President @kyai_marufamin,” Sri wrote on Instagram, Thursday (14/9).

She explained that in the future DKJ will become a global city and the largest economic and financial hub in Indonesia.

The change in Jakarta’s status is stipulated in Law 3/2022 on National Capital which contain provision for the amendment of Law 29/2007 on the Provincial Government of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta as the Capital of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. (bp)
