Jakarta, IO – Maryam, a domestic migrant worker (TKW) from Krasak village, Jatibarang district, Indramayu, West Java, was found on Facebook. The family said she has been missing for seven years, Kompas reported, Monday (9/1).

He family was very happy knowing that she is still alive. Maryam’s niece Haya explained that she left for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) around 2015. Haya said the family couldn’t contact Maryam after that. Maryam also never sent any news about her situations. Her sponsor, when contacted, always said she was fine, while barring the family from contacting her personally.

Haya revealed that Maryam became a migrant worker was due to financial pressure. Haya suspects that Maryam was deceived by her sponsor.

“Maybe she was happy upon hearing that she will make a lot of money without knowing whether it’s legal or official. She thought she only needed to pass the medical examination, depart and then return to the village with millions of dollars,” said Haya.

After there was no news from Maryam, her husband Cala, who is a farm worker, was saddened and asked Haya and her mother Carini for help. Haya herself has also worked as a migrant worker for several years. They then reported to relevant government agency. Not only that, they also went to see a paranormal to try to locate Maryam’s whereabouts.
