Indonesia wins awards at ICYS in Serbia

Jakarta, IO – Indonesian representatives won medals and awards at the 29th International Conference of Young Scientists (ICYS) in Belgrade, Serbia, from April 8-14.

According to Kemlu.go.id, Wednesday (19/4), Indonesia won two silver medals and three awards, namely best poster in environmental science, best poster in computer science and best poster in mathematics.

“The Indonesian team was selected from the 2022 Youth Research Competition (LPB) which starting from the provincial to national level,” read a statement from the Foreign Ministry.

ICYS is a conference for high school students to compete in scientific research on a particular topic or theme at the international level. The 29th iteration was attended by more than 80 students from various countries.

The winning research titles from the Indonesian team are: (1) Mucilage and bamboo charcoal-based wound dressing: Malabar spinach (Basella alba) mucilage and Cendani bamboo (Phyllostachys aurea) charcoal as a biodegradable hydrogel powder for wound dressing, (2) Styrofoam biodegradation by superworm, (3) DontDrown: An Artificial Intelligence system for beach surveillance, and (4) Optimizing MSME profits using linear program.
