Indonesia makes history by qualifying for the 2024 Asian Cup

Jakarta, IO – New history has been carved by the Indonesian U-23 men’s soccer team. They managed to qualify for the U-23 Asian Cup for the first time after defeating Turkmenistan 2-0 at the Manahan Stadium in Solo, Central Java, Tuesday (12/9).

“Thank God, we have qualified for the U-23 Asian Cup for the first time in history. This is proof that we are capable,” said the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) chairman Erick Thohir, per Katadata, Wednesday (13/9).

In the match which was personally watched by President Joko Widodo, the Garuda Muda squad demonstrated maximum performance. Erick is grateful that the athletes can provide the best results for Indonesia.

“Congratulations to all the players, coach and officials, you deserve it after fighting so hard, both in training and in matches,” said Erick.

Erick also appreciated the calmness of the players which, according to him, allowed them to dominate the game.

Erick added that the achievement also provided momentum for the national team to raise their level of play in the international arena.
Through his Instagram account, President Jokowi also shared his joy and appreciation.

“It was not in vain that I came to Surakarta yesterday to support to the U-23 national football team,” wrote Jokowi. (un)
