Canada to import food and beverage products worth Rp27 billion from Indonesia

Jakarta, IO – The Trade Ministry (Kemendag) revealed that Canada is going to import food and beverage products from Indonesia with a value of up to US$1.8 million (Rp27 billion) in the next one year.

Kemendag’s National Export Development (PEN) director general Didi Sumedi said the trade plan was launched during a meeting between 29 Indonesian exporters and five Canadian importers. These meetings are part of the implementation of cooperation between the Directorate General of PEN, Kemendag and the Canadian Trade Facilitation Office (TFO), per Katadata, Thu (15/2).

The products in high demand are organic spices, coffee, coconut derivatives, as well as nuts and processed nut products. Several other commodities also offered by small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) including spices, organic rice, seafood, soy sauce, dried fruit, virgin coconut oil, and other certified products.

Several prospective buyers at the meeting hoped that representatives of Indonesian SMEs who were present could send product samples accompanied by details of wholesale price offers for export purposes.

Canada is one of Indonesia’s top 30 trade partners. In 2022, the value of Indonesia’s non-oil and gas exports to Canada was worth US$ 1.27 billion, up 9.21 percent over the last five years. (bp)
