IO, Solo – A student of Fine Art Education Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has won another national-level competition. Niko Andre Prasetyo, the 8th-semester student of Fine Art Education Program FKIP UNS, won a logo competition held by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (Kementerian Dalam Negeri – Kemendagri) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) on last month. On his achievement, the logo he submitted will be used as the new crest of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

He admitted that he was very happy and did not expect that his work would win first place in the logo contest held by Ministry of Internal Affairs. “I was happy knowing my logo went through the best 12, at least if I would not take first place, Alhamdulillah I got to the best 12 from all of the designs submitted. After waiting for some time, I finally got information from the Committee through WhatsApp to check the announcement at the Ministry of Internal Affairs Instagram page. When I saw that my name and logo were named first place, it was unexpected, (I had) mixed feelings… and happy,” he said when interviewed by uns.ac.id on Friday (29/5/2020).

The logo competition is an effort to rebrand the Ministry of Internal Affairs, upholding its spirit through hashtag #Kemendagribaru. Submission and registration started on 19 February-6 March 2020 with the results announced on 17 March. However, due to the pandemic, the announcement was postponed to 7 April 2020, before appearing on the Ministry of Internal Affairs official account. By winning the first position, Niko was awarded IDR 25 million.

Niko’s art work defeat another 1,394 works submitted to the competition. He stated that the logo he designed was inspired by the logo of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which is circular. He also added the flag and the Garuda bird (“eagle”) on the logo.

“The meaning of the logo I designed follows the terms and conditions for the logo from Ministry of Internal Affairs, as explained on the logo competition website. Only that I had the initiative inspired by the flag and Garuda. Mostly because those are the core that reveal the identity of Indonesia, specifically through a logo for the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” he explained.

The logo designed by Niko will be displayed as the new logo of Ministry of Internal Affairs. This achievement is expected to provide more spirit and motivation for UNS students. (*/est)
