President Jokowi appoints a special envoy to address global crises

Jakarta, IO – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo appointed Muhammad Mardiono, a former member of the Presidential Advisory Board (Wantimpres), as Presidential Special Envoy for Cooperation on Poverty Alleviation and Food Security on Wednesday (23/11).

The appointment of Mardiono signifies the government’s commitment and efforts to strengthen domestic food security in anticipation of the impact of global crises and economic recession, reported Antara.

“Building food security is a top priority because we are currently facing global crises and prospect of a global recession,” said Mardiono.

Mardiono revealed that the president gave him mandate to coordinate with government agencies, conduct field visits, and conduct studies related to measures to bolster food security and eradicate poverty, which are the first and second goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

According to him, efforts to improve food security will be carried out in accordance with Presidential Regulation 12/2022 on government food reserves. (un)
