Malaysia Arrests 13 Indonesian Citizens in Citizenship Operations

Jakarta, IO – Malaysian Immigration Authority (JIM) detained a husband and wife who hold the titles Datuk and Datin suspected of being agents of illegal domestic workers in Selangor, Malaysia, Thursday (16/2). JIM Director Khairul Dzaimee Daud said the two were arrested along with 13 Indonesian women aged 22-47, reported Viva, Monday (27/2).

Khairul said the 13 women and their husbands were arrested based on information from the public and intelligence. According to preliminary investigation, they entered Malaysia as tourists.

Khairul said they were promised jobs as domestic workers after paying fee ranging from MYR3,500 (Rp12.4 million) to MYR4,500 (Rp15.4 million) per person as entrance fee which will be deducted from their monthly salary.

Khairul suspected the couple worked with agents from Indonesia. They were also suspected of allowing illegal immigrants to stay in places where they served as supervisors or managers.

Khairul advised the public to be more careful with fake agents and always pay attention to official information from Malaysian immigration authorities. (un)
