Preventing Sexual Harassment on Buses, Transjakarta adds 20 pink buses

Jakarta, IO – PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) added 20 special buses for women. Its spokesperson Apriastini Bakti Bugiansri revealed that the initiative aims to prevent sexual harassment on its buses.

“We want all female passengers to be able to enjoy Transjakarta services feeling safe and comfortable,” said Apri, reported Republika, Monday (27/2).

Known as pink buses, the first batch of 15 buses will begin operation today serving the Kalidered-Pasar Baru line (Corridor 3), Pinang Ranti-Pluit (Corridor 9), Ciledug-Tendean (Corridor 13) and PGC-Harmoni (Corridor 5C). The remaining units will start operations in March.

Transjakarta is also strengthening the security system in all its lines. Now, all buses are equipped with CCTVs and security personnel at bus stops and on the bus.

“On regular buses, Transjakarta also has a special room for women. They are also equipped with CCTVs to ensure passenger safety and comfort,” she said. (at)
