Makarim Wibisono appointed as PPHAM team leader

Jakarta, IO – President Joko Widodo appointed Makarim Wibisono as the head of the Non-judicial Settlement Team for Past Serious Human Rights Violations (PPHAM Team). Makarim has played a number of important roles in dealing with human rights issues.

Makarim has a long track record in the fields of human rights and diplomacy. He also attained degrees in international relations and politics at various universities, CNN Indonesia reported on Wednesday (21/9). He majors in international relations at the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM).

After graduating from UGM, he continued his education in the United States where he earned a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University. He also has a master’s degree and a doctorate in international politics and economics. He also earned a dual degree from the Ohio State University.

Throughout his career, Makarim was trusted to assume a number of crucial positions related to international relations and human rights. He has served as special rapporteur for the United Nations (UN) on the Palestinian territories from 2014 to 2016. Makarim has also served as ambassador several times.
