Jakarta, IO – The Jakarta provincial administration officially designated the Pasar Baru Complex as a Cultural Conservation Area. Not only that, Batu Penggilingan (milling stone) and the Padrao Inscription are also designated as Cultural Heritage Objects.

Head of Jakarta Culture Agency, Iwan Henry Wardhana, said this was made after going through a review by the Cultural Heritage Expert Team (TACB) of Jakarta Province and formalized through a Governor Decree.

“The designation of the Pasar Baru Complex as a Cultural Conservation Site is because the buildings in this area have a cultural heritage structure that stores information about past human activities. So its existence needs to be preserved and protected,” said Iwan on Wednesday (21/9).

He added that Pasar Baru Complex used to be a trading hub that had developed since the early 19th century. Several cultural heritages in the form of buildings and structures in the complex reflect its rich history.
