Jakarta, IO – Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan claims Elon Musk is interested in investing in Indonesia’s hugely potential nickel industry. He conveyed this via his personal social media account after meeting the Tesla’s boss at the company’s Giga Factory in Austin, Texas on Tuesday (26/4).
“It was a relief for me when Elon conveyed the reason for his interest in this collaboration after I presented to him Indonesia’s huge nickel industry potential which changed his perception,” said Luhut via his Instagram account @luhut.pandjaitan, Wednesday (27/4).

At the one-hour long meeting, Luhut also conveyed the raw materials potential for the manufacturing of electric vehicle batteries, especially considering that Indonesia is currently developing its mineral downstreaming program. Luhut said Elon Musk viewed Indonesian nickel industry to be very promising in the supply chain of electric car batteries.
