KPU: Presidential-Vice Presidential Debate Will Take Place 5 Times

Jakarta, IO – The General Election Commission (KPU) has set a schedule for the presidential-vice presidential debate ahead of the 2024 elections. KPU chairman Hasyim Asy’ari said there are five sessions that have been set.

The debate will be held on 12 and 22 December 2023. Then in 2024, the debate will be held again on 7 and 21 January and 4 February, per Antaranews, Thu (30/11).

As for the detailed location of the debate, KPU has yet to provide further information. Nevertheless, Hasyim confirmed that the debate would take place in Jakarta.

KPU commissioner August Mellaz said the decision was taken based on a number of considerations. One of them is the security factor.

“We are not Jakarta centric. But the KPU office is in Jakarta, so the location includes technical factors, for example mass mobilization, everything is concentrated in one area, so it will be more effective,” said August.

KPU also ensured that the presidential-vice presidential debate would not be held like a quiz-like format that was monotonous or non-interactive. (un)
