Jakarta, IO – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) will operate 34 additional trains for the Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 (Nataru) holiday. KAI spokesperson Joni Martinus said this step was taken due to high public interest.
“KAI added several trips on various routes and classes to accommodate the high public interest in using trains during Christmas,” said Joni, per Kompas, Thu (30/11).
Joni explained that with these additions there will be 311,856 seats for long distance trips with the most popular connections such as Jakarta-Solo, Jakarta-Surabaya, Jakarta-Malang, and Bandung-Solo.
Joni explained that additional train tickets could be ordered starting Wednesday (29/11), at midnight WIB online via the Access by KAI application, the official kai.id website and all other official online sales channels.
Meanwhile, to purchase tickets directly, Joni said passengers can only order at the station counter starting three hours before the train’s scheduled departure. He also said that the additional train would operate the same as the regular Nataru train schedule, namely from December 21 to January 7, 2024.

Before the addition, around 549,612 tickets had been sold as of Wednesday (29/11). This accounted for around 25 percent of the total tickets provided, namely 2,334,340.
“This number will continue to increase because sales are still ongoing. The public can order the tickets immediately because there are still quite a lot of tickets available for the festive season,” explained Joni. (un)
