Meanwhile, Kemnaker Secretary General Anwar Sanusi said the number of laid off workers as of February 2023 have yet been counted as it takes time considering the data comes from many sources.

Earlier this year, Anwar warned of wave of retrenchment in start-up companies. According to him, this phenomenon is happening globally, not just in Indonesia. Kemnaker has prepared programs to help workers affected by layoffs at their workplaces.

“In Indonesia, we already have a job loss program, job retention scheme that can provide financial cushion for those who have been laid off. They will still get cash for six months, and other forms of support such as retooling trainings,” said Anwar. (un)
