Jakarta, IO – Communications and Information Ministry (Kemkominfo) has blocked 683 websites that have been infiltrated by online gambling content. The temporary blocking is done to prevent them from being misused.

According to the ministry’s director general for applications and informatics Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan revealed that in the period between January 1, 2022 to February 13, 2023, a total of 461 sites with the go.id domain and 222 with the ac.id domain have been compromised by online gambling content.

“The handling of negative content on domain .go.id and ac.id is based on crawling results and public complaints,” he said, reported Katadata, Tuesday (14/2).

According to him, the factor that causes the vulnerability of government’s websites is a lack of awareness/understanding about cybersecurity. In addition, many of these sites are no longer active, thus making it easy to hack.

Furthermore, the domain manager has been contacted and the page has been temporarily disabled due to the misuse. Kemkominfo has been working with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) and the Indonesian Internet Domain Name Registry (PANDI) to address the matter. (bp)
