Jakarta, IO – Iran has revoked its visa regulations for a number of countries, including Indonesia, on Monday (5/2) which means Indonesian citizens can travel to the country visa-free.

There are 28 countries that are exempt from visas to enter Iran. This is part of Iran’s efforts to rejuvenate its tourism industry battered by the Covid-19 pandemic, per CNN Indonesia.

Other countries affected by this decision are Japan, Brazil, India, Mexico, Peru, India, Singapore, Cuba, Tunisia, Tanzania, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and several Central Asian countries.

Iran deputy foreign minister for consular affairs Ali Reza Bigdeli said he had informed the relevant agencies and institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the public on the change.

Bigdeli further clarified that the policy only applies to tourists who enter the country by air, not land. “Those who enter via land port still need a visa,” said Bigdeli. (un)
