Indonesia Wins Prestigious Award in Japanese Choir Competition

Jakarta, IO – Indonesian choir group won a prestigious award in the 38th Takarazuka International Chamber Chorus Contest competition held at Takarazuka Vega Hall, Takarazuka City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.

There were three winning choir groups from Indonesia. SMAN 15 Surabaya Libels Voice Choir bagged a bronze medal in the Children’s & Youth Choir category. El-Shaddai Choir of the University of North Sumatra (USU) which performed in the Mixed Voice Choir category was named the silver medalist. Meanwhile, Terra Voice won two awards, Audience Award and a bronze medal in the Mixed Voice Choir category.

“We are very proud of the achievements achieved by the nation’s children. This result is the fruit of the struggle and hard work of the participants so that they are able to make the nation proud on the international stage,” said Diana ES Sutikno of the Indonesian Consulate General in Osaka, per Kemlu.go.id, Tuesday (25/7).

Takarazuka International Chamber Chorus Contest was first held in 1984 and in 2023 it was participated in by 27 choir groups. Although it was postponed three years ago due to the Covid-19, it was resumed with special restrictions on participants from Japan. This was the first time it involved participants and judges from outside of Japan. (bp)
