Giant statue of Sukarno to be built in West Bandung next year

Jakarta, IO – West Bandung regency administration plans to build a satellite city which features a giant statue of independence proclaimer and first president of Indonesia Sukarno. This statue will be made by Balinese sculptor I Nyoman Nuarta.

West Bandung regent Henky Kurniawan said the budget allocated for the project was estimated at more than Rp10 trillion because the city is projected to become a world-class business center with environmentally friendly credential, per BBC Indonesia, Monday (21/8).

He said the development will be funded by property developer Ciputra consortium and state-owned plantation company PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) VIII. The location for the construction of the 100 meter high statue will be on a 1,270 hectare area in the Walini plantation managed by PTPN VIII in Cikalongwetan district.

“The city is expected to become a tourist destination, s that there will be tourist objects, then with commercial and residential areas,” said Henky.

Maman Sulaeman, head of West Bandung regency’s capital investment and one-stop service (DPMPTSP), said so far the contour and land feasibility studies have been conducted to ensure that the site is safe from potential natural disasters and earthquakes. The environmental impact assessment (Amdal) and licensing process are also underway.

He was convinced that West Bandung regency will receive many benefits from this project. It is expected to increase tourist visits and locally-generated revenue (PAD). (rr)
