Jakarta, IO – National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) lead researcher Siti Zuhro commented on the many surveys released ahead of the 2024 presidential election, especially on political issues that have emerged recently. According to her, all surveys must comply with the basic principles and research methodology.

“Political surveys may be wrong, but they must not lie,” said Siti, per Katadata, Friday (11/8).

Siti said that currently a number of survey institutions have started to release findings regarding the electability of political parties or presidential and vice presidential candidates. In addition to the experienced ones, several new pollsters have also entered the fray.

She said she often found survey institutions that are not transparent about the source of their funding. In fact, this aspect needs to be disclosed because it will affect the level of public trust.

The General Election Commission (KPU) previously issued Regulation 9/2022 on public participation in the 2024 Elections that requires survey, opinion poll and quick count institutions to disclose the source of their funds.

Additionally, the regulation also requires pollsters to report their methodology as well as the number of respondents as well as samples of the results. (un)
