Jakarta, IO – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said Indonesia will become a major producer of nickel-based products in the future when he inaugurated the first phase of an integrated electric battery industry development in Batang Integrated Industrial Estate (KITB) in Central Java, Wednesday (8/6).
“As a country with the largest nickel reserves in the world, Indonesia will become a major producer of nickel-based products, such as lithium batteries, electric batteries, electric vehicle batteries. And this is a great opportunity, a golden opportunity to build a green economy in the future as per our plan,” Jokowi said as quoted from the Cabinet Secretariat’s press release on Saturday (8/6).

He said with the start of the integrated electric battery industry development, Indonesia will become the first country in the world to integrate the production of electric vehicles from upstream to downstream.
