“Starting with nickel mining, smelters, precursor factories, cathode factories, then electric batteries, battery packs, to electric cars, including the battery recycling industry. From upstream to downstream, end to end, everything is done in this investment,” said Jokowi.
“The total investment reaches a staggering US$9.8 billion or Rp142 trillion. And what I am most happy about, it will create a lot of jobs, demand for human resources, our workforce is 20,000, this is significant. Everywhere today job creation is key,” he added.
Jokowi also ensures that investments from upstream to downstream will be spread out in several regions in Indonesia, not only in Java.
“The nickel mining and smelting will be done in Halmahera, in North Maluku. The refinery industry and precursor industry, the cathode industry will be based in Central Java, in Batang Industrial Estate. Then the battery factory will be built in Karawang, and the electric car factory in Cikarang. So they will be spread out, this is very good,” said Jokowi. (rr)
