Mount Anak Krakatau erupts again, spewing 500m-tall volcanic ash

Jakarta, IO – Mount Anak Krakatau erupted again this afternoon, Wednesday (8/6) at 13.04 WIB. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) noted that the grey volcanic ash column reached 500 meters tall above the peak, Detik reported.

PVMBG, part of the Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM)’s Geological Agency, added the eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 50 mm and a duration of 75 seconds. The current status of Mount Anak Krakatau is still at Level III (“Standby”). The public is prohibited from approaching the area at 5 kilometres radius from the crater.

Mount Anak Krakatau last erupted on April 24 at 20:20 WIB. It erupted again after being dormant for two months. It is spewing volcanic ash which reaches up to 3,000 meters from the crater. (rr)
