Jakarta, IO – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo revealed during a visit to Boalemo regency, Gorontalo, on Monday (22/4) that corn imports have been in decline, in line with higher production.

“Our corn imports used to be 3.5 million tons, now only between 400,000 to 450,000 tons. It has dropped significantly,” said Jokowi during a corn harvest at the corn production hub, per Presidenri.go.id.

In addition, Jokowi said price of corn on the market has decreased due to abundant production, from Rp8,000 to only around Rp4,000 to Rp5,000 per kg. However, he cautioned that the price needs to be controlled so it can remain stable.

“This shows that our production is abundant. We hope both the production and price can increase,” he added.
