Warung Mak Beng, 3rd Legendary Diner Worldwide According to TasteAtlas

Jakarta, IO – Warung Mak Beng, or “Mother Beng’s Diner”, has been awarded the third Worldwide Legendary Diner accoridng to TasteAtlas, a tourism guideline website that regularly reviews and lists the best food and drink from various countries.

According to the @tasteatlas Instagram and Twitter posts concerning the 150 legendary dining spots around the world, Tuesday (27/06), Warung Mak Beng in Sanur, Bali is named the third legendary restaurant, defeating La Polar in Mexico and L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele in Italy.

In the post, Taste Atlas explains that both taste and longevity count in the nomination of the title: “150 legendary restaurants dedicated to taste, not gimmicks. 150 dishes you must try in this lifetime. These are not just places to grab a meal, but destinations in their own right, comparable to the world’s most famous museums, galleries and monuments. Each one has withstood the test of time, eschewing trendy gimmicks in favor of traditional, high-quality cuisine.”

As for Warung Mak Beng, the site declared, “Warung Mak Beng has achieved legendary status with its singular dish – ikan goreng, deep fried fish dish served with a rich and spicy sambal sauce. Since its establishment in 1941, Mak Beng’s uncompromising commitment to fresh, local produce and a tightly guarded family recipe has endowed its fare with a distinctive taste that transcends trends.”

Kat’z Delicatessen, established in 1888 in New York, was named 2nd Legendary Restaurant because of its iconic pastrami on rye sandwich, while Austria’s Figlmüller, the Schnitzel Wiener Art specialist established in 1905, is named the 1st Legendary Restaurant. (bp)
